Just when you thought the weather couldn't get any worse, it decides to snow! As you can see from the picture I took on Sunday afternoon, it may look very pretty but it doesn't do anything for my putting stroke! You can always keep up to date on the golf course conditions by looking on the Tyrrells website (you can opt-in to receive the course information status via email) or by calling the course information line 01372 379599.

Coaching update from Jo
"Ink it, don't think it" - The importance of recording your goals
This week I used goal setting with the juniors who attend junior coaching on Monday nights. Each junior was given a profile to fill out with a few simple questions; the responses were quite varied but very honest. Here are some examples:
What motivates you to play golf?
I like it, it's a hard sport - Enjoyment - My dad
Identify one long-term goal (12 months+)
A single figure handicap - To break 100
Identify two short-term goals (6-12months)
Not to talk when people are taking shots - To have a positive attitude - Improve my ball striking
Potential barriers to achieving your goals
Laziness - School commitments - Not getting out to play enough
The importance of writing your goals down, as the juniors have here, cannot be underestimated. The action of doing this reinforces your intent to complete the goal. It almost becomes a sort of contract that you feel obliged to complete, you won't forget any of your goals and you get the satisfaction of being able to tick your goals off as you achieve them.
When setting goals remember:
Anyone, no matter your age or ability level can set goals
Make your goals really specific and set a completion date - this gives you something to aim at and aspire to
Make your goals realistic and challenging - goals should be difficult enough to be challenging but not so hard they become unrealistic
Consider the goal after the goal - if your goal is to break 100, be aware of your next step. The next goal may be to break 95, by having this in mind nothing will stand still; you will continue to strive for your next goal.
