Hello golfer,
In this week's newsletter find out what's coming up at Tyrrells Wood next week, what happened when we were unpacking the latest boxes to arrive, and why your Captain and I had a scare in our latest Cameron Cup match. Enjoy the read.
We seem to be experiencing every season in a day at the moment, so if you timed it right you might not have needed to wear your thermals, lined jumper, beanie hat, waterproofs and snood - really Paul Milner? The good news is, at the time of writing this, I'm told there's a chance it's going to be 16'C by the weekend - I really hope so!
A few members have already taken advantage of our first ever Bag Trade-In, but it's not enough. We need more of you to take us up on the great offer. It's as simple as it sounds, trade-in your old golf bag for up to £30 OFF a brand new bag.
This week has seen the arrival of our Under Armour stock, available from Saturday, 12 March. The range looks fantastic, so much so that whilst unpacking the boxes in the week we sold two sweaters. Make sure you pop in to take a look.
Steve Thorn and Paul Gandar were our latest challengers. Thankfully the Captain and I had a very good start because we needed to rely on it later. We sprinted out of the blocks to be five up through the first seven holes - things were looking good at that point. A few hours later we were standing on the 18th tee just one up - things not looking so good now. Fortunately we managed a half to finish the match one up. It was definitely a game of two halves with all four of us hitting some excellent shots during the round, I'm just glad we just had enough in the tank to see us through. A big thank you to Steve and Paul for their generous donation to the Captain's Charity.
Sometimes when you're trying to win an important hole, match or competition you imagine that everything has to go your way. But not so as demonstrated by Adam Scott last week at the World Golf Championship at Doral, where Adam trailed Rory McIlroy by three shots going into the final round. Scott's final round included two double bogeys, a shank out of a bunker and an approach shot into a water hazard, yet he still managed to win by one shot, collecting just over 1.6 million dollars. Even last placed Steve Bowditch, who didn't break 80 all week, picked up $48,000 for finishing 49 shots behind Scott. Now that's the kind of tournament I need to play in.
The entry book for the Summer Knockouts is now open. If you'd like to enter one of the knockouts then please sign-up in the pro shop before the end of March. Entry is just £3 per person and make sure you keep Sunday, 25 September free, it's Finals day (just in case).
