Playing a very different game
Whilst flicking through my phone, like you do……
By the way - a recent study discovered that the average person checks their device 85 times a day, spending a total of five hours browsing the web and using apps. Blimey.
….. Anyway, I saw a tweet about Rory McIlroy's driving during the Memorial Tournament last week:
McIlroy's drives on the 17th hole
Round 1 - 352 yards
Round 2 - 361 yards
Round 3 - 343 yards
Round 4 - 382 yards
Average - 359.5 yards
Wow! If you're looking to hit the ball a little further, then now is the perfect time to book your FREE driver fitting session. I'm not promising Rory-length drives off the tee, sorry. I can promise we can find a way to improve the distance of your tee shots. Please click here to book your session.
US Open Sweepstake - Picks are available from the pro shop or click here and we'll pick a name out of the hat for you. Prizes for the top five plus best Brit, Amateur and Senior. With the 'big three' all looking in pretty good form, it's hard to see who will finish on top. I've read the golf course looks brutal...
FREE Golf Balls - For one week only we have an excellent offer from Cleveland. We'll be giving away a FREE dozen AD333 golf balls with any Cleveland putter sold. The Classic range is available in four models, including my favourite (shown in the picture below) 'TPA' design that I remember Nick Faldo and Phil Mickelson using to such good effect. Each putter has a milled face and weighs 350 grams and comes with a soft Winn putter grip - this all means it's perfectly balanced and the best part ….. It's only £69.99. But hurry as this offer is only available this week.
Limited Edition Pro V1 Golf Balls - To celebrate being the #1 golf ball played at the US Open for 68 years, Titleist have issued these limited edition Pro V1 balls with the number 68 on. One of the most popular balls in golf, the Titleist Pro V1 was designed to deliver penetrating trajectory for extraordinary distance with consistent flight. Plus there's more short game control than before, even softer feel and long-lasting durability.
Hard work definitely pays off
Congratulations to Geoff Hopwood for winning the TW Seniors Stableford on Friday, 3 June and to Sam Patel for coming second in the Club Medal on Saturday, 4 June. Both Geoff and Sam had recently been in for lessons and it great to see both get handicap reductions as reward for their efforts.
Summer coaching
How frustrating is it to get up and around the green in 2 or 3 shots and then take another 3 or 4 to get the ball in the hole?
This month there are various ways you can get help with your short game through clinics and packages available - click here for more details. Following these there will be junior Golf Passport summer camps running throughout the summer holidays, for children aged 6-10 years. Please click here for full details on the above.
Men vs Juniors - Report from Steve Hunt (Men's Vice-Captain)
The annual match took place on Thursday, 2 June, luckily in better weather conditions than the previous two wet days. 10 press-ganged aging golfers managed to beat eight juniors plus two pretend men-juniors 4-1. The enthusiasm of the youth of the club was very evident before the matches, while the men were drinking coffee or turning up late, all the juniors were on the putting green practicing and talking tactics. A special mention for Cameron Tarbet (Junior Captain) who assembled good team and also played very well with his partner to record their only win against the Men's Vice-Captain. There are some very good talents, albeit playing off generous H/Cs which I am sure this will change this summer. Good luck to all the boys in their exams and their golf progression this year.
Captain's Day Success
Many thanks to everyone who took part and supported Captain's Day last Sunday. We were blessed with some fantastic weather to go with the golf course - which looked amazing - and a hog roast on the terrace in the afternoon, it's a tough life sometimes. First place went to John Bone, just ahead of the pro shop's very own Chris Olney - Plus a mention to those members who lead him astray later on….. You know who you are. Shame on you! Paul Harris finished third with 37 points also.
Nearest the pin in two on the third was won by Andreas Antoniou, with nearest the pin on the 16th won by Brian Chester. Longest Drive on the 17th was won by Michael Exworthy. Brain, we have a couple bottles of wine for you to collect from the shop. I wouldn't leave it too long to collect them though……
