Cameron Cup update
Unfortunately, it's bad news this week as we suffered our first defeat of the year (okay, we've only played two matches but it still hurts). On Sunday we were challenged by Mark Evans & David Gilliland and after the perfect start we were three up through three, but it went downhill from there. We proceeded to lose the next six holes in a row. I even threw in a birdie on the 5th and we still lost the hole to Dave's three (nett two). Not to be outdone, Mark matched this feat on the 8th and so we made the turn three down.
We managed our first halves of the match on 10 and 11 only to lose the 12th (the less said about Dave's approach shot the better) and 13th holes to be five down with five to play. A mini fightback occurred on the 14th (an awesome birdie from me, if I do say so myself) followed by an excellent four (nett 3) from the captain on the 15th got us thinking we might just make a game of this after all. Alas, some indifferent tee shots on the 16th led to a 4&2 loss.
Both Mark and Dave played very well and would have taken some beating on the day, it's just frustrating that it doesn't go your way sometimes - although it was a little sneaky of them to play us the day after Pro's Day and my birthday! Thanks for your company gents and again for a very generous donation to the captain's charity.
Srixon Ball Fitting
Thank you to all members who took part in our very first ball fitting event this week. We were joined by Martin Conner, Srixon's UK Fitting Technician, who put some of you through your paces. If you think changing a golf ball won't make a difference, then you need to read on…..
Peter Maestas, who saw this event advertised in a golf magazine, found an average increase of over 25 yards with his driver! Probably the best news for him was that he'd been using a premium golf ball for the past 18 months thinking that because it was expensive it must be good for him, in reality the ball that actually improved his golf was half the price.
Come and speak to us in the shop if you wish to find out which ball is best for your game.
Have you got the balance right?
Why don't I get any better? This is a question millions of golfers ask themselves all the time. "I play three times a week but my golf never improves." Sound familiar? Ask yourself, how often do I allow myself the time to work on my game?

Who'll win the final Major of the season?
This week sees the USPGA Championship get underway. The golfing calendar has been moved around to accommodate golf at the Olympics, although several golfers have declined the opportunity to play. I must admit that when I heard golf was going to be included I'd hoped it would be for amateur golfers. The Olympics should be at the pinnacle of your sport and I'm sure if you could offer a professional the options of winning the Olympics or a Major, I'm positive which one they'd choose. The 98th PGA Championship takes place at Baltusrol and in the shop we've made some predictions as to who's going to come out on top....
Jo's chosen Rickie Fowler
Chris has picked Henrik Stenson
I've gone for Sergio Garcia
We'll see how we all get on this weekend.
Last Saturday (my birthday) saw our annual Pro's Day take place, with 85 members taking part in an individual stableford competition. An early alarm call and an 8am shotgun start (watch the video here) got play underway. Four and a bit hours later, Gideon September finished top of the pile with an excellent score of 42 points (pictured here). Each competitor received two free golf balls in our golf ball amnesty, a complimentary drink after golf plus some birthday cake. There were some excellent prizes up for grabs, please click here to see who won what or see the competition results below for the full results.
A massive thank you to all who took part in the day (and for singing happy birthday to me) and to all members for your continued support, it's very much appreciated. This year Pro's Day was open to all members and so please look out for it in the 2017 diary, we'd love to see you there.
Betchworth Trophy Success
On a very hot July day, four aging men and four sprightly ladies participated in the annual Mixed Pairs Trophy. The format of the day being 18-hole greensomes stableford for team and individual pairs prizes.

The next 10 days at Tyrrells
Correction - Last week I stated that Helen Johnson won the Ladies MacMillian Spoon, but it was in fact Lorna Johnson who won the competition with an excellent 40 points. Well played Lorna and I'm sorry for the typo.
Sat 23 Jul - Following on from my report above, please click here to see the full results from Pro's Day. Personally, I thought the guy who finished in 16th place deserves a prize!?
Sun 24 Jul - Well played Kevin Johnston who won the Martin Quaich with a great score of 41 points. Martyn Jones finished in second place with 39. Please click here for the full results.
Sun 24 Jul - Congratulations to Jim Bowles who won the Fatah Cup with an excellent score of 41 points (Jim shot a two-over par round) to win by two points from Dave Orpin, who also shot two-over-par. Not to be outdone, Malcolm Allan finished in third on 39 points and yes, you've guessed it, he also shot two-over. Well played, gents. Please click here for the full results.
Tue 26 Jul - Many congratulations to the team of Deryn Hemment, Charmaine Kearl, Patricia McCrea & Cate Sharpe who won the Club Captain's Day for the Ladies texas scramble with an excellent score of 63.9. Please click here for the full results.
Tue 26 Jul - Very well played Toby Edwards who won the Club Captain's Day for the Juniors stableford with an excellent 42 points. Toby's handicap has been cut to 19.0, not bad for a 12-year-old. Keep up the great play, Toby! Please click here for the full results.
