Hankley Common success - Steve Hunt
The annual inter-club Junior/Adult Challenge at Hankley Common is always very popular and this year it was supported by 19 different clubs from Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Dorset and Kent. A total of 68 players took part, the men playing with their club junior in a team format, both scores counting and also individual qualifying stableford competition for both.
Anyone who has played Hankley Common will know it's a very good test of golf and highly regarded. It was a shotgun start at 9:30am - thank goodness because we all missed the early afternoon rain. Captain Stuart Jackson selected to play with Junior Captain Cameron Tarbet, and Vice-Captain Steve Hunt fortunately played with Toby Edwards, who at 12 years old playing off 19 is a potential prospect for the future.
After a wonderful lunch the prize giving took place. This was always going to be awkward as we obviously knew our Captain's individual score. The first prizes were presented to the individual juniors. The winning score was 40 points by Richard Pharo (H/C 6, The Army) followed in 2nd place by our own Toby Edwards on 39 points which included two no scores. Next up was the individual Adult presentation. 2nd prize went to Richard Baker on 38 points (H/C 6, Ashridge) but to the amazement and disbelief of everyone present, Captain Stuart's name was called out as the winner scoring 45 points. He collected his prize and appeared not to be embarrassed, perhaps in total shock himself.
The main prizes for the day are the Adult/Junior event and to the surprise of the Vice-Captain and Toby with their combined score of 73 points, they came 2nd and collected some very nice prizes. This obviously meant that Captain Stuart and Cameron won the overall with a combined score of 78 points (pictured here). A clean sweep of the prizes for the two TW pairings on the day. Captain Stuart made a speech mentioning that he has never played that well before, which I think fell on deaf ears and El Bandito was mentioned.

Walker wins Wanamaker
So Jimmy Walker is your PGA Champion and winner of the final Major of the year. I'll admit I struggled to stay awake during the final round, I made it to final nine holes before I had to give in. Although, that probably had something to do with a big family pub lunch we had as I enjoyed a rare Sunday off because of the cycle race. It now means all four of 2016's Majors were won by first time winners. Chris's pick of Henrik Stenson finished highest out of our shop picks, the less said about my choice the better I think.
Do you prepare to succeed?
If I said you could add extra distance to your game without changing anything about your swing, without spending any money and it will only take five minutes of your time, what would you say? How many of you take the time to go through a warm-up routine before you play a round? Many people underestimate how big an effect spending as little as five minutes before a round can have on your performance.
