The perfect trolley for Tyrrells Wood
Motocaddy - the brand leader in electric trolleys - has introduced an advanced version of its hugely popular S1 model; featuring downhill speed control (DHC) and the UK's first electronic parking brake. Please click here to see my video of how it performed on the slopes at Tyrrells. It's almost as if their Sales Director had this trolley designed for his own golf club...thank you, Mr Parker.
Pro's Day runner-up claims his prize
Tyrrells member Paul Milner finished in second place in my recent Pro's Day. His prize was a custom fitted Odyssey putter from their European Performance Centre in Chessington, you can read how he got on below:
"Having been introduced to Matt Judd - the Callaway putter fitting specialist - who works with Oliver Fisher and Danny Willett, I knew I was in expert hands. Matt set up both the simulators. The SAM machine measures face angle, aim, address, impact and stroke angle whilst the Quintic camera monitors the ball roll, spin control and launch angle.
After hitting quite a few putts with my existing Odyssey putter, Matt highlighted it was not necessarily his role to change technique for people who were consistent putters (although he can do this, but he recommends your club pro), but to fit the correct putter to players visiting him.

We've arranged for September's Club Medal to be sponsored by the number one golf ball manufacturer, Titleist. The challenge is simple:

Beat your handicap in the Medal

It's that easy, best of luck to all competitors!
Wednesday Boys' Exchange - Report from Doug Tidmarsh
The Wednesday Boys' roll-up took place at The Drift Golf Club on an exchange day basis with 49 players in attendance. The day commenced from 11:30am with breakfast before we started, and with The Drift golf course in good condition we all had a very nice day. Pat Garrett, at the age of 88, was the winner with 39 points. That means that Pat shot 2-under his age (he is still just an old-age Bandit) - well done. Gideon September came second with 38 points.
When should I take lessons?
Before writing this I have spent a little bit of time looking through some online forums where amateur golfers give each other advice and discuss how often they think they should be having coaching. Some of this was pretty eye opening and actually gave me a great insight into club golfers' perceptions of coaching.
How many of you go to a coach when your game is really bad and it's a sort of last resort?
A lot of the time coaching is perceived as a bit of a quick fix or something that can be instantly changed. The reality is that learning and making a change takes time. But, with the right approach, structure and frequency of coaching you can start to see improvements quicker than you might think.

Cameron Cup update
After the heroics of last week's match, it was down to earth with a bump for myself and the captain on Sunday at the hands of Simon Cheung & Doug Tidmarsh. Simon played extremely well on the front nine with Doug helping out when required, seeing them a comfortable 4 up after the front nine. After a stop at the halfway hut and some much needed sustenance, the captain & I started our mini revival. We won the 10th, should have won the 11th and won the 12th to get back to 2 down; maybe all is not lost, I thought. But some excellent play by Doug & Simon followed and they closed out the match on the 16th green for a well-deserved 3&2 win. Truth be told, we didn't play our best with Simon & Doug used their shots very well. Well played guys and thank you for your generous donation to the captain's charity.
As most of you will know, I'm not a fan of losing (although who is?) and so I think it's fair to say I wasn't in the best of moods when I got home. You may also know that my house is in a bit of a state at the moment following a burst pipe a few weeks ago in our upstairs bathroom which flooded our bedroom and through into the kitchen below. Anyway, whilst playing outside with my kids (trying to forget about my golf that morning) I heard a noise coming from our house, strange I thought, there's no-one inside, the TV wasn't on, I wonder what it is? I walked in the front door into a pool of water, can you believe the exact same pipe, this time from our downstairs bathroom, had burst and water was everywhere. What a way to finish the day!?
