It's been another busy week in the Pro Shop at Tyrrells with more fabulous winter stock arriving, we just need to sell it all now!

Cameron Cup Update
On Monday we played one of the closest Captain & Pro matches of the year. We were challenged by Rik Andrew & Philip Garland, and after making our usual start, 3 up after 4 holes with everything looking good, we still managed to be behind after the front 9!
After a perfectly timed stop at the hallway hut (when the heavens opened!) we continued in a similar fashion (I think there were only 4 halved holes in the entire match). Rik made a fantastic 4 nett 3 from the greenside bunker on the 13th for a halve, Philip and I both birdied the 15th for another halve, and then on 16 the magic happened. I've seen a handful of holes in one, but this one will take some beating.
With the match all square, the Captain, with the honour, steps onto the tee with a five wood in hand, the wind slightly off the left and a red flag pin position. After a perfect strike the ball took off slightly to the right of the pin, drew a touch in the air, pitched around 6 feet short of the pin and rolled into the hole…… Happy Days! That put us 1 up with 2 to play, surely even we won't lose this….. On the 17th Philip made an excellent 4 nett 3 to halve the hole with me after I'd hit my best shot of the day, a wedge to gimmie distance for a birdie.
Unfortunately the Captain and I were clearly worn out after the last few holes (I later worked out we had played the last 5 holes in nett 7 under par!) because we didn't put up much of a fight on the 18th and lost the hole for the match to finish all square, which I think was probably the right result in the end.
Philip & Rik made us work extremely hard for it and once again made a very generous donation to the Captains Charity, thank you gentlemen. Sorry about the bar bill Stuart but somebody had to tell the Monday Boys about it!
Ladies Match Update from Judy Baker
I was optimistic that we might win more of the friendly matches than we would lose, when Gill Staunton captained our match against Puttenham, at home, to a narrow victory 2.5 to 1.5. Then Shirley Nelson captained our match against Croham Hurst, also at home, to a 4 love win. This left us with 8 matches won, 8 lost, 2 draws and 2 left to play.
Unfortunately, we then lost our match against Bramley away last Thursday. Noreen Kelland gallantly captained our team but the opposition played really well - one of our opponents scored 5 pars in the first 9 and more pars, plus a birdie, in the second!
Overall we won more matches at home than away. So, no pressure on the team, captained by Charmaine Kearl, who completed our season by playing Reigate Heath at home on 20th October, but if we win, we will have won the same number of matches as we have lost this season!

Tyrrells Ladies Trip 2016 - El Rompido
Last week I took 12 Tyrrells ladies away to El Rompido, near Huelva, in southern Spain. The resort had 2 really different and challenging courses, both with some lovely views. We all enjoyed getting away from the chilly autumn weather and were fortunate enough to have 3 days of beautiful sunshine with temperatures perfect for golf.
We split our days with coaching in the morning and golf in the afternoon. The facilities at El Rompido were great and our coaching sessions focussed mainly on short game with chipping, bunkers, and putting being popular topics. I played a few holes with each group each day and it was great to see all the practicing paying off on the course. Overall we had a great week and would definitely go back again.
Andreas claims his prize at Callaway
Please read what Tyrrells member Andreas Antoniou had to say after recently visiting the European Fitting Centre at Callaway.
They say if you can't be good be lucky - this certainly applied to me on this year's Pros Day after winning the very generous 1st raffle prize of a set of custom fit Callaway irons. My recent 90-minute fitting experience with Matt at the Callaway performance centre in Chessington was great fun.
A spacious indoor studio stuffed with the full collection of Callaway clubs, TrackMan, and a massive projected course simulator, really gives you the feeling of being outdoors. I was a little sceptical about how much improvement new irons could bring but by the end of the session I'd completely changed my mind and couldn't keep an excited grin off my face. The session started with me hitting reference shots with my current off-the-shelf TM Burners. I then tried a variety of irons with shafts of different weight and flex. There were so many combinations to choose from but Matt's in depth product knowledge and experience quickly identified a short list. In the end my best performing club was the Apex CF16 with a slightly heavier regular shaft and with the lie angle adjusted to reduce my tendency to hook. The result: I was much straighter and over 10 yards longer - happy days!

Initial on course assessment session - lasting an hour and a half we will play a few holes to assess your current golf game. After play, we will sit down and talk about your goals and targets for the year ahead. Putting on paper a plan for your coaching sessions.
Option 1
6 x 45 minute coaching sessions - one coaching session to be booked and used each month.
November - April. 6 x 45 minute sessions + initial assessment session - £275
Option 2
3 x 45 minute coaching sessions - one coaching session to be booked and used each month.
November - January. 3 x 45 minute sessions + initial assessment session - £155
