I spent a lovely weekend away from Tyrrells this week with Freddie and Jack as Nicky was away (running her first ever tuffet retreat, I bet you didn't know they existed) anyway, you can imagine how delighted I was to get back to work to find this on my desk.
Thank you Mr Moore and no I didn't enjoy the football on Sunday afternoon!
Keep Warm this winter
I hate to admit it, but I'm afraid it looks like the summer is over, the ladies have just played their Medal and Stableford finals, the men's winter league has started (and has already been rained off once!) the TW Seniors are starting their Winter League matches, it'll soon be Christm……. No! I just can't bring myself to say it yet!
Now if you haven't had a chance to play at Tyrrells recently then you really must, the golf is still in fabulous condition and the trees at this time of year look amazing, I think it's my favourite time of the year to play here.
Clocks Change… All change!
Make sure you don't forget to change your clocks over this weekend, this also means Winter Rules will be upon us.
- All casual golf is played from the yellow tees for men, reds for ladies
- If your ball lies on a closely mown area you are able to lift, clean & place your golf ball within six inches but not nearer the hole
- During casual golf it is not necessary to attend the flag whilst putting
- The afternoon roll up times will come forward to 11:30 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday.
We've been busy again this week unpacking more lovely winter stock, this week's highlight is from ProQuip. It's a lined ProQuip zip neck jumper, complete with the Tyrrells Wood crest which will definitely keep you nice and warm over the winter months. They're available in all sizes and just £70.
Tyrrells compete in another Surrey Final
Steve Mills & Les Goodall will represent Tyrrells Wood in the final of the Kelso Hamilton Four Ball Matchplay against Betchworth Park this Saturday at Royal Mid Surrey, good luck chaps!
Ladies Friendly Match Report from Judy Baker
The last ladies friendly match of the season was played today, captained by Charmaine Kearl. They won 2.5 to 1.5 at home against Reigate Heath. This result brings our total for the season to a draw - 9 matches won, 9 lost, 2 draws and 1 cancelled. Please click here to see our results. That seems a very healthy outcome for the friendly matches!
We all play golf for different reasons, for some it's for competition, for others it's for the social side to the game. One thing we will all have in common - regardless of why we play -is that we we get far more enjoyment out of the game when we play well.
What stops us getting better?
Most of us realise that to get better at anything we have to change something. We can't expect a better result by doing the same thing we've always done. For many doing something different means risk, it means potentially looking a bit silly if we fail, it means effort. All of these things equal fear and the reason we've put off signing up for that lesson for so long.
Making that change isn't as scary as it may seem
To improve we first need to believe that we can get better - every part of golf is a learned skill (Skills are built not born)
Next we need to assess where can we make the biggest improvement to your enjoyment of the game - For some it might be holing more putts, for others it might be hitting more fairways or hitting it 10yards further.
The winter is the perfect time to work on improving your game and getting more enjoyment out of your golf. Why not use the down season to make that change...
