And finally we're back
You may remember, back in the summer we unfortunately suffered two burst pipes in our house within a couple of weeks of each other. After waiting a couple of months for the house to dry out and a delay from the builders appointed to carry out the work, things finally seemed to be happening. There were a few 'hiccups' along the way. The most frustrating being, with only a couple of days' notice (and the very last thing to be done), the carpet company delayed the job by another two weeks. They finally turned up last week with the wrong carpet and still insisted on fitting it! At this point I'd like to thank Tyrrells member (and Chris' Dad) Phil Olney who stepped in and most definitely saved the day, thank you Phil. If you're think of replacing your carpets, I cannot recommend him and his company highly enough. We moved back this week which is just as well because Freddie was starting to worry that, if we weren't back by Christmas, would Santa be able to find us? I have to say it's so nice to be home, the kids have got their toys and bedrooms back, Nicky can work from home with a decent internet connection and I can finally sleep in my own bed.

Callaway's best ever driver?
It's normally after Christmas we all start thinking about losing weight but it looks like Callaway have beaten us too it, after a recent visit their HQ in Chessington I tried their new ultra-light Fusion driver. I'll be honest, I was extremely sceptical as Callaway claim it performs better than the XR16 range - the best performing driver of 2016. I shouldn't have worried, it's a fantastic club that's been designed to perform for club members rather than tour pros. We now have a demo driver in store and so if you'd like to take this club out and see what the fuss is all about please just pop into the shop.

Our Last Cameron Cup Challenge
On a very frosty and frozen Wednesday morning, the Captain and I played our last challenge for this Captain's year, it wasn't going to be easy as we were up against Geoff Hubbard and Del Atkinson. We didn't get off to the best of starts, losing the first two holes, but we managed to get to the turn just 1 down. The match continued to be extremely close on the back nine, with the highlight being Geoff's amazing (lucky!) chip from the edge of the trees by the 14th green that finished just a foot from the hole, which got the match back to all square. We halved the 15th and then won the 16th and 17th holes to win the match 2&1. Considering the tough conditions we all played pretty well, as always it was great company and after a nice generous donation to the Captain's charity, I believe we've raised just over £750 for the year and so I say a massive thank you to everyone who has contributed over the Captain's year. As I'm sure you can tell, I really enjoy playing with members in these challenges, it's one of the highlights of my job. Our record for the year was: played 17, winning 9 and losing 8. Set yourself up for a great 2017
This week I went back to a couple of my favourite gym classes after having not gone for a few months. Before the summer I had been going regularly and had been feeling the benefits in my golf game - I felt more stable over the ball, more in control of my swing and able to generate more distance. But over the summer being busier and playing more golf meant that I got out of the habit of going.
My classes were Thursday evening and Friday morning - by Friday evening I was struggling to walk and I don't think there was a part of my body that didn't hurt. I instantly regretted letting my gym routine slip as it was quite literally like starting again.
Golf is in a lot of ways quite similar (although way less painful!) by working on your game you can make big improvements, but if you let your routine slip by getting out of the habit of practicing or of having coaching you can see things start to recede.
I've mentioned golfing resolutions a lot and now is a great time to set one. Get your 2017 season off to the best start with a winter improvement package.
