Hello golfers,
Thank goodness February is here, let's hope the weather continues to improve although I did read we may be in line for another cold snap mid-February, I really hope not.
Who doesn't want more distance?
We've been keeping busy this week coaching in our indoor studio plus we've had a few exciting deliveries but there's one in particular that I've been looking forward too for some time, Callaway's new Epic wood range has finally arrived. The range has been much anticipated in the golfing industry mainly because everyone who has tried it has seen an improvement in distance. The driver clubhead has a much lighter crown and the face gets an upgrade with Callaway's new Jailbreak technology which combined promotes extra ball speed from anywhere on the clubface. Using our studio, Jo & I have been testing this club non-stop this week. So far Jo has managed to increase her ball speed by over 12 mph and mine has increased by 10mph.
If you're looking for some extra distance off the tee then you really must come in to be fitted for this golf club, I promise you won't be disappointed.
Putt for dough this year
Don't let the recent bad weather get you down… It's the perfect time to get to work on the important areas of your game - your putting. Now, some very clever people have invented one of the best putting training aids I've ever seen, the PuttOut Pressure Putt Trainer. It's a small device that you can use anywhere, it'll fit into your golf bag and the most important part is it really will help improve your putting skills.
Well done Chris!
I'm delighted to announce that my assistant Chris has passed his ASQ Level 1 certificate in Coaching Golf. He'll now be able to assist Jo & myself in some of our coaching sessions, with the longer term goal of Chris coaching full time. Unfortunately you won't be able to congratulate him this week as he's attending his first year PGA training course at The Belfry.
February MOTs
I don't know about you but the weather is really starting to get on my nerves. It's so frustrating not being able to get out on the golf course. I'm sure most of you can't wait for the spring and for the weather to improve.
But - What are you doing to get your golf ready for the season?
It's so easy at this time of year to go weeks or even months without hitting a golf ball. When you do get on the tee you're so rusty it's almost like starting again.
Make sure you're ready for the start of the season with a MOT. Throughout February these 30 minute MOTs are available for just £15. By the end of the session we will have established your target for the year ahead and will have a plan for how we are going to achieve it.

This week Rob and I went to the PGA Teaching and Coaching Conference at Old Thorns in Hampshire. The conference was headlined by former Olympian Steve Backley OBE, who now works alongside fellow former Olympian Roger Black. Their company BackleyBlack deliver workshops and motivational speeches helping companies deliver Olympic performance in the workplace. It was fascinating listening to someone who had been to the very top of his sport. Steve spoke about his career right from his experiences as a newcomer through to being a world record holder and Olympic silver medalist. He was fantastic to listen to and was incredibly honest about his career and achievements. The conference also included a presentation on young peoples experiences in golf by Dr Richard Bailey and Dr Ed Cope. I always enjoy listening to Dr Bailey talk and some of the new research he presented at the conference will undoubtedly be a big help to what we do here at Tyrrells Wood Golf Club.
