Greetings golfers,
I hope you've all had a good week on and off the golf course, welcome to another edition of the Tyrrells Wood Pro Shop newsletter bringing you up to date with all the latest news and offers.
We've been busy again this week unpacking more boxes, this time from mega shoe company Skechers. We have a great range of men's & ladies shoes now available, from lightweight summer models to all year round durability plus a fantastic warranty that you won't find with any other golf shoe. These shoes really are fantastic, if you don't believe me, then come and try a pair on for yourself, I promise you won't want to take them off. When you're in the shop you might notice a few boxes missing already, that's because we've sold them to Tyrrells members before they even made it to the shop floor.
I managed to sneak out for 9 holes on Monday afternoon in preparation for the first Cameron Cup challenge this week against Past Captain Ian Taylor and Mr Roll Up Phil Wicks, it's going to be a tough first game. Speaking of which Chris and Vice-Captain Alan Jagger get their Stevenson Cup matches off to a formidable start this Sunday playing the 3 times in a row winner of the Scottorn Cup - Gary Dunford partnered by 18 time winner of the Club Championship, Paul Earl… Best of luck!
I was glad to read some of the proposed rule changes from The R&A and USGA last week. I'm not convinced they go far enough to speed play up or to make the game more appealing, but it's a start I guess. You can read more on this later on.
Captains' Drive In & Hog Roast
Make sure you put Sunday 2nd in your diary as our Club Captain, Steve Hunt will be driving in, yes I know he took office back in November, but what can I say...He's the Captain! As he assures me it's going to be a nice day, he's organised a lovely hog roast. Entry for the Sunday Club Medal will be £10 and all Tyrrells members are welcome to join in the fun, the drive will take place around 1pm and extra Hog Roast tickets can be purchased for £6. Please let us now in the shop if you'd like to book for just the hog roast, the competition entry will be open at 7am on Friday morning. I look forward to seeing you there!
The Summer Knockouts
Remember our Summer Knockouts are now open, you can sign up for these in the Pro Shop and entry is just £3 per person. Please, please, please make sure you'll be available for Finals Day on Sunday 1st October.
Course Maintenance Week
Please be aware that next Wednesday 15th, Thursday 16th & Friday 17th March we will undertaking some course maintenance. On Wednesday the 10th tee will be closed until 10am, all golf must start from the 1st until this time. Thank you very much for your co-operation.
Distance - Gaining it is easier than you might think
It's easier than you might think to gain a extra few yards without sacrificing control over the direction of your shot. There is a big difference between swinging the clubhead faster and hitting the ball harder; Hitting the ball harder very often results in a vast increase in effort, reduced control over direction - everything goes out of sync and we may even hit it shorter, whereas learning to swing the clubhead faster results in a more efficient swing that is more likely to hit the middle of the clubface and often feels easier - all leading to more distance
Hitting it further, with less effort and more consistency is entirely possible for any golfer and doesn't require a complete swing rebuild.

Modernising Golf's Rules
Last week the R&A proposed some key changes to the Rules of Golf from 2019. Their Rules Modernisation initiative has been underway for a few years now and this is the next stage in that process. The aim is to not only make the Rules easier to understand, but also to address some of the game's current problems, such as speed of play, and ensure they fit the needs of today's game.
Please spare a couple of minutes to complete our survey, which gives you the chance to have your say on the proposed changes.
We've picked out some of the most significant Rules changes for you to digest in this survey, before giving you the chance to say whether you agree or disagree with each of them. It'll be great to know your thoughts.
Have your say here.
