Greetings golfers,
It's been another busy week in the shop at Tyrrells, not only were even more boxes delivered, but on Monday we had some new shop fittings installed. The new look Pro Shop is starting to take shape and will be completed by early next week, in the meantime please pop in and see what we've done, we hope you like the changes.
One of the brightest boxes unpacked this week was from Callaway Golf, their new range of golf balls will brighten up anyone's day.
The Captain & Pro Challenges Begin
Last week saw both the Cameron Cup (the Captain & Professional challenge) and the Stevenson Cup (the Vice-Captain & assistant Professional challenge) get underway. Last Thursday saw Steve Hunt and myself up against the formidable pair of Ian Taylor & Phil Wicks, and after a very close front nine the Captain and I found ourselves 2 up through the turn. We were even more surprised to ease to 4 up with 5 holes to play, but unfortunately for us Ian and Phil then turned on the style. Phil birdied the 14th hole for nett eagle, then, not to be outdone, Ian made a birdie 3 on the 15th and all of a sudden we were only 2 up. Thankfully the Captain made a halve on the 16th (don't worry Steve, I won't mention 'that' putt!) and Ian made a great 4 nett 3 on the 17th for a win, Phil then did the same on the 18th. So within a blink of an eye we'd gone from being fairly comfortable with 5 holes to play to only halving the match. Fortunately, for us, that means that Ian and Phil don't make it through to the knockout stages (and my dream is still alive, for another week at least). It was an excellent game to be a part of, we all had our moments and most importantly the Captains' charity, The Prostrate Project was the winner with a very nice donation to start our year off, thank you Ian and Phil.
Speaking of which, if you would like to take part and help raise some money for the Captains' charity you can pop into the shop and predict where the Captain's Drive-in will finish on Sunday 2nd April. Entry is just £2 and if you're correct you could win a bottle of champagne. Please click here for details.
Chris' Stevenson Cup Report - On Sunday 12th March myself and Alan Jagger played our first match of this year's Stevenson Cup. We were up against the tough pairing of Paul Earl and Gary Dunford. The match was very tight throughout, the first 6 holes were halved before I birdied the 7th to break the deadlock and go 1 up. The match took a huge turning point on the 13th hole as it looked certain that Paul and Gary were going to get back on level terms, however, Alan had other ideas...he looked out of the hole before chipping in from over the back of the green for a par 4 and even called it himself; "it looks like I'll have to chip this one in then". It proved to be a pivotal moment in the match as we managed to escape that hole with a half before going on to win the match 3&2. I would like to take this opportunity to thank both Paul and Gary for there generous donations to the Captains' charity and myself and Alan very much enjoyed there company on the golf course.
Jo's matches with Anne Stevenson get underway on Thursday 30th March, I'll keep you all posted on the result.

With only 3 weeks left until the first men's Major of the year is upon us I thought I'd give you a week's warning that our US Masters Pro Shop sweepstake is taking place. It's the usual £2 per pick and the top five winning prizes plus the leading amateur, senior, and brit.
