Greetings golfers,

It's been another busy week in the shop at Tyrrells, the new look Pro Shop is looking great (if I do say so myself!) Thank you to all who have popped in to have a look around. This past week our bag trade in promotion has really taken off, we've already seen many of you take advantage of £20 OFF any golf bag we have in-store. That's right, any golf bag has £20 OFF and all you need to do is leave us your tatty old golf bag. With options from Callaway, PING, Lynx and Motocaddy there's plenty of choice waiting for you.

The Captain and I face our next challenge in the Cameron Cup this weekend, a tough match against Mark Crompton and Simon Winslade, let's hope we can keep our run going (yes, I know we've only played one game so far, but a run is a run!). Speaking of the Captain, please click here for the details of his Drive-In which takes place on Sunday 2nd April - all members are welcome!

Sweepstake

Masters Sweep

I hope, like me, you're looking forward to the first Major of the season. The Masters gets underway on Thursday 6th April. It's my favourite Major to watch and, having been fortunate enough to be at Augusta for the 2014 Masters, I definitely look at the course differently. Before I went to Augusta everyone who I spoke to, who had been, warned me that I wouldn't believe just how hilly the course is. I thought, well I play at Tyrrells all the time, I'm used to hills but...Wow! Trust me, it makes Tyrrells look flat, some of the elevation changes were just amazing and don't get me started on the severity of the greens, it's incredible. I've been lucky enough to visit many great golf courses but my trip to Augusta is one of the very best, a must for any golfing nut.

Speaking of which and being the sad golfing geek that I am, I have some Masters trivia for you to impress (?) your family and friends:

Do you know what is so unique about the scorecard at Augusta National?
The yardage measurements for each hole are only in multiples of 5.

I told you I was sad. On to more important things - As of Friday 24th March our Pro Shop sweepstake will be open. It's £3 per pick with the top five winning prizes plus the leading amateur, senior and brit.

Assistants news

What Are You Going To Do About It?

I'm currently reading a book about the All Blacks, the New Zealand Rugby team, called 'Legacy - 15 lessons in leadership' by James Kerr. It's a really interesting book about how you can apply some of the All Blacks values to sport, life, business etc. Even if you're not that into rugby it's a really good read.

One of the chapters looks at how you react to a poor performance. A lot of the time if we play badly or continue to play badly over a period of time we can get stuck in a rut. Or we can get stuck on a particular handicap and struggle to improve and move off it.

What are you going to do about it?

  • Carry on as normal and hope that somehow you start playing better
  • Be proactive - do something about it

If we are struggling with our game, not knowing what is causing our bad shots is a really tough position to be in. How many times have you tinkered with different swing thoughts or tried little tweaks here and there that have worked for a few shots but made no real long-term improvement?

Steps to Improvement

  1. Find out what you need to do - Have an assessment to find out what is causing your poor performance
  2. What are you going to change? - Prioritise, we can't fix everything all at once so prioritise changing your most costly issue
  3. How are you going to do it? - A coaching plan is the best way to ensure your improvement stays on track
  4. Everyone is different - It's quite a common fear that making a change will result in a full swing rebuild and months of misery. Coaching should be tailored to you and improvements can happen much quicker than you think

If you are struggling with your game and need advice on how to start improving a game assessment is the perfect place to start.

An assessment includes a full profile of you and your golf, goal setting and a tailored coaching plan. Following the assessment I will put together a package tailored to you and your budget.
