Captain's Drive In
Thank you to all who supported our Captain this weekend, with your help we raised over £2000 this weekend for his charity, The Prostate Project. Congratulations to Malcolm Allan who won a bottle of Champagne for successfully predicting where the Captain's drive would finish (please click here to see his drive in) for the record, it was a 240 yard 3 wood, just left of the fairway.
Gregg Barnes won the raffle for dinner at The Garden House restaurant at Beaverbrook Golf Club and David Weller was the lucky winner of the Captain's charity parking space. It's also tradition that, on Sunday, the Captain and Pro take on the new Vice Captain (Alan Jagger) and the outgoing Captain (Stuart Jackson) in a 9 hole match, it was a very enjoyable 9 holes in the sunshine and the result...Well, it's always a half.
Course Update
You will have read in my newsletter last week that during our AGM the Course Manager, Paul Sheather. revealed plans to redesign the 13th hole and the practice area. With plans for both projects to take place this year, it will only enhance Tyrrells Wood.

This week...
This week sees my favourite Major, the US Masters, get underway and I can't wait to watch the action unfold. As for a winner it's difficult not to see Dustin Johnson winning; however if you're looking for a little more value in your bet I'd go for Paul Casey, Louis Oosthuizen, Justin Thomas or Bernd Wiesberger. Thank you to everyone who took part in our Pro Shop Sweepstake, you can click here to see the full list.
I was very sad and disappointed to read about the first ladies Major of the year last week, the ANA Inspiration. Lexi Thompson was handed a four shot penalty during her final round (she was in the lead of the tournament at the time) for an incident that occurred the previous day. Lexi composed herself remarkably well and made three birdies to force a playoff which unfortunately she lost on the first extra hole. As golf continually struggles to grow, especially the women's game, incidents like this do nothing to help and with such archaic rules in place it really is time to change.
The Summer Knockouts
The draws for all of our summer knockouts have now been made and you can view these on the Tyrrells Wood website. Please, please, please can I make everyone aware that by entering these competitions you will be available for Finals Day on Sunday 1st October.

There was some fantastic scoring on Sunday in the Club Medal, Stuart Hood finishing top of the leaderboard with a seriously impressive Nett 64. Not to be outdone, especially after the moves I saw him make on the dance floor on Saturday night, Dave Tennant finished in 2nd place with a Nett 65. I think I need to find some dancing shoes if that's what it'll do to my golf!

Tuesday 4th April

Captain & Pro Report - Thursday 30th March
On Thursday 30th March the Lady Captain, Anne Stevenson, and I played our first Captain and Pro match against Marcelle Jansen and Diana Morris. Marcelle and Diana are always a tough pair to play, both are very steady and play well together. Anne and I started well being 3 up after 6 holes, but our opponents soon got themselves back in the match. Anne made a great 5 nett 3 on 17 to take the match down the last but we eventually lost 2 down. Our next match is against Marie Munt and Carolyn Chambers on Thursday 13th April.
