A well deserved victory
I hope, like me, you managed to stay up to watch the final round of The Masters on Sunday. I was delighted to watch two European golfers battling it out over the back nine at Augusta. Only three players in history have played in more Major Championships without a victory (Jay Haas, Lee Westwood & Colin Montgomerie) and it seemed fitting that on what would have been Seve's 60th birthday Sergio finally won a big one.

Cameron Cup report
As you must all know by now, I really enjoy these matches, they're a great way to meet members and to raise some money for the Captains' charity - I'd love to go through a Captain's year unbeaten. Unfortunately we were beaten a few weeks ago, in just our second match, and I'm afraid the 3rd match went the same way. We were challenged by the quiet, shy duo of Grant Buxton and Adam Wieckowski. The Captain and I started well and were two up through the first 7 holes only to be pegged back by Grant on the 8th with a 4 nett 3, followed by a 2 nett 1 on the 9th to get the match back to all square.
In what was a very close back nine, we found ourselves 1 up on the 17th tee and after a nice drive and approach to 15 feet I had 2 putts to halve the hole... Just lag the putt to the hole Rob, no need to do anything silly I thought to myself. It was a fairly straight putt - what could go wrong? 3 putts later I'd managed to lose the hole and we all headed off to the 18th tee with the match back to all square.
After a solid drive Grant hit a lovely 9 iron that finished just inches from the hole (I'll be honest, my heart sank even more at that moment) and with the Captain and I unable to make our birdie putts we'd (I'd!) lost the match 1 down. Grant and Adam hit some excellent shots when it mattered but 'that' putt of mine on the 17th green is going to stay with me for a long time...Our record so far this year is: played 3 and lost 2, that's not what I had in mind, back to the drawing board I guess (although maybe that should be the putting green)! As with all of our matches so far, the Captains' Charity has been the real winner with, thanks to Adam and Grant, a sizeable donation - thank you gents.
Course Update
The golf course is looking great, especially considering it's still early in the year. Paul and his team have done a fantastic job but there's something you can help them with...Pitch marks! We all know they're there and we all claim to repair our own, but listening to many members this weekend there seemed to be lots of unrepaired pitch marks on the greens.
From Friday 14th April please be aware Winter Rules will no longer be in play.
