Dear golfers,

I was really glad to hear the R&A and USGA announced immediate changes limiting the power of video evidence in rules decisions following the fiasco Lexi Thompson endured last month. What I find difficult to understand is golf's governing bodies can update rules quickly when suits them whilst (in my opinion) more important rules that effect all of us have to go through a daft review process.  

It's been an important week at home as Freddie has started his last term at his infant school and his younger brother Jack started at pre-school, where does the time go?

Due to popular demand we've added some extra tee times for the Sunday May Medal and Blades qualifier. You can book these online via the Tyrrells website.

The Captains Charity Day - More support needed! 

The Captain's Charity Day in aid of The Prostate Project is gathering momentum….. but we need more teams to enter. The event is open to ALL members regardless of category. If you have a team of 4 players you can of course enter as a whole, but if you are short of a full complement and would like to play, you can also sign up as an individual via the Office or Pro Shop. We're keen for as many players as possible to participate, so don't be shy. 

The event will be played in 4 balls with the best 2 scores to count. Spot prizes and a "beat the pro" on the 16th hole will also be up for grabs on the day, along with a fine lunch after your golf. The entry fee is split directly between a donation to the charity, prizes for the day and the meal. No portion of the entrance fee is "paying to play your own course", this day is for the charity so please let's support it!

How Would You Like To Be More Consistent?

If I talk to any golfer, one word in particular comes up more than any other: consistency. Consistency seems to be the thing all golfers are striving towards, but do you know how to achieve it? 

What's Stopping Me Being Consistent? 

For most people the route cause of their inconsistency comes from inefficient technique. If you have a swing with many moving parts, it will rely heavily on timing. Keep in mind that on average the golf swing from start to finish takes around 1 second to complete. So on a day when you manage to time things pretty well you will hit the ball well, but on a day when that timing is even just a little bit off you won't hit the ball anywhere near as good. 

Another area that causes inconsistency is inconsistency of thought. How many times have you picked up a new tip and tried it for a round or even for just a few swings. When it stops working you switch to another swing thought or another tip. Mastery of a skill takes time, but more importantly we need to be mastering something that is relevant to our swing and how we move. Be aware of tips in magazines or on YouTube! These tips are inherently general. They have to apply to as many people as possible. How do you know that the latest swing tip you have picked up is even relevant to your swing? 

How do I get more consistent? 

Consistency comes from having a really simple technique that is easy to repeat. But it also comes from having an understanding of your swing and what you need to do to improve.
