Greetings golfers,

I watched the Players Championship in Florida last week and was glad to see Ian Poulter finish in 2nd place despite one of the worst second shots (a massive shank!!) I've seen in a long while on the 18th hole. To be fair to him, he hit a superb recovery and holed the putt for a bogey. Rafa Cabrera-Bello also deserves a mention, not just for his albatross 2 on the par 5 16th hole, but for the celebration afterwards, seeing the ball disappear into the hole he tossed his club into the air... into a lake! The tournament was won by 21 year old Si Woo Kim, who is a very cool customer and is now 1.9 million dollars better off… wow!


 

The Captain's Charity Day 

Many thanks to the 20 teams that took part in the Captain's Charity Day last Sunday, with your support we raised over £2500 on the day. It was a team competition with a Beat the Pro Challenge on the 16th hole, whereby you could win a sleeve of balls if you hit your tee shot closer than mine. With the wind into and off the left, it was a tricky tee shot (that's my excuse!) but the highlight has to go to Steve Thorn who replicated Rob Cullen's effort from last year. Steve thinned his tee shot which bounced over the cross bunker and nestled within a few feet of the pin. Even more impressive was the fact Steve predicted he was going to 'do a Cullen' before he hit the shot! 

The day was won by the team of John Adams, Allan Chisholm, Rod Capel and Philip Garland with an impressive score of 92 points and the best dressed team were Neil Parker, Jeff Keane, Trevor Steer & Tom Waugh, as you can. Please click here to see the full results. 

Speaking of raising money for charity, many congratulations must go to one of our past Captains Terry 'slim line' Gauntlett who has reached his target of losing 2 stone since the beginning of the year, raising money for charity in the process, so if you sponsored him it's time to pay up. I'll keep you updated on just how much he's raised.

Seniors Bunker Coaching 

Learn how to play bunker shots with ease with sessions covering greenside bunkers, uphill/downhill lies, plugged lies, that awkward in between length and fairway bunkers. Sessions take place on the practice area and the golf course.

The Saturday Roll Up Cup 

Last Saturday saw the morning roll up take on the afternoon boys in their annual match.
