Greetings golfers,
Winners in all major sports will use customised equipment, golf is no exception. In fact the margin of error in golf is so small that using the correct equipment is even more important. We often hear "I'm not good enough to be fitted for golf clubs" or that "I'm working on my swing before I invest in some new equipment"; however, in my experience the higher the handicap the more necessary it is to be custom fitted.
The more I experience and learn, the more I tend to think that golf is a game of chance and so having the correct equipment in your bag will mean you'll be closer to playing to your full potential.
Time and expense are often reasons golfers don't consider getting fitted. Generally a fitting session will take an hour and is completely FREE to Tyrrells Wood members and with plenty of demo equipment available you'll be able to use the recommended clubs on the course before you buy.
If you're still not sure about the importance of custom fitting then please click here to read what Tyrrells member Simon Edge had to say about his recent experience.
As well as our Complete Equipment Solution taking place at the moment we also are hosting TWO excellent fitting days in June.

Stevenson Cup Report from Chris
On Sunday 28th May, myself and Alan played our second match of the year hoping to continue our one game winning streak…we were up against another tough pairing of Stuart La Frenais & Andy Foley. Alan and I got off to a good start by winning the 2nd hole to move 1 Up courtesy of Alan's 4 nett 3, we managed to hold on to that lead whilst Stuart was making pars from places I never knew existed! However we were pegged back on the 6th and halved the 7th before Andy began his awesome stretch of golf. He would make a 4 nett 3 on the 8th to move them 1 Up before using the slope to the left hand side of the green to his advantage with his shot into the 9th green, setting up a 2 nett 1! To move them 2 Up…it is also well worth mentioning Stuart did make a very nice 2 of his own. After hitting a nice drive on the 10th which found the putting surface, I managed to 2-putt (which was a huge feat for me on the day) for a birdie 3 before Andy rolled in another nice birdie of his own to halve the hole. They managed to hold on to that advantage until the 14th when Alan then stole a page out of Andy's book, using the slope to nestle his 2nd shot within inches of the hole - setting up a 3 nett 2 to half the deficit. But despite our efforts, we would eventually lose out on the 17th with Andy making a 4 nett 3 to win the match 2&1. I would like to take this opportunity to thank both Stuart and Andy for their donations to the captain's charity, we very much enjoyed your company on the golf course.

How would you like to play the Old Course at Walton Heath?
This weekend's Club Medal is also our qualifier for the PGA National Pro-Am Championship, to enter simply pay £2 when you sign in for the Medal, the lowest nett score over the weekend will qualify you to play with me on the Old Course at Walton Heath on Tuesday 18th July. The winners of which will play in the Grand Final at Pestana Vila Sol Golf & Resort, Portugal, in September.
Speaking of Walton Heath, it was nice to see so many Tyrrells members watching and working at the US Open qualifier on Monday. Despite a fantastic first round of -5, Tyrrells own Gary King couldn't keep the momentum going in his afternoon round. He looked to be in good form and with a few European Tour starts coming up soon I really hope he can kick start his season.
Ladies Friendly Match Update from Bettina McFann
Saturday 6th May we had a home match against Wimbledon Park and drew 2-2. Thursday 18th May we played at Surbiton and lost 1-3. Monday 22nd May we played a home match against Puttenham and drew 2-2.
Want to improve your golf this season?
Are you frustrated, not playing your best and not getting the kind of enjoyment out of the game that you should?
With the summer still ahead of us, now is the perfect time to do something about improving your golf! Top tips for playing better golf:
- Choose to do something different - improving takes a conscious decision to do something about your game. It's too easy to keep doing the same thing and hope your game gets better.
- Make time to work on your game - in the summer it is especially easy to fall into the trap of playing so much competitive golf (competitions, matches, roll ups) that you don't get time to work on your game in between. It's so hard to make any kind of change stick if you're only ever in competitive situations, make time to play a few holes that are purely for practice.
- Get professional help - if you've got a burst pipe do you ask a friend who thinks they know a bit about plumbing for help or do you seek out a professional? So often in golf we rely on advice from a golfing friend for help on our game. The golf swing can be complex, we are all individual and a tip that works for your mate almost certainly isn't relevant to you. Get help from someone who is trained to improve your golf.
- Get a plan - Improving is so much easier when you have a plan or routine to work from. Get an improvement plan that is tailored to you and your golf.
If you are ready to start enjoying your golf and lowering your scores, book an game assessment today!
The assessment will go through you, your golf and your history, your goals, a physical screen and an analysis of what is currently causing your issues. I will then put together a coaching plan and package that is bespoke to you and your golf.
