County Under 16 & 15 Championships
Tyrrells Wood saw some of the very best junior golfers in the country compete in the under 16 & 15 Championships. It was fantastic to see such talent on show, Surrey really does lead the way in junior golf. Please read below the match report from Head Coach, John Noble.
The 2014 Surrey Under 16 & 15 Championships took place at the magnificent Tyrrells Wood Golf Club on August 4th.The field was strong, including several players who had recently competed at the u16 National Championships at Radcliffe, Notts & at the U15s event at Harewood Downs in Bucks. Among these were Harvey Byers who compiled rounds of 74 & 75 to win the U15 event and 3rd in the U16 race following his 3rd place at Harewood Downs scoring 69-69 and his 16th place at the MCGregor Trophy. In second place was the ever consistent Max O'Hagan fresh from playing all 4 rounds at the England U18 Carris Trophy and winning the National Schools Championships with Reeds School. Max scored 71-76 to collect the Silver medal. However, the star of the day was former England schoolboy's boxer Tommy Bentley who delivered the knockout punch scoring 68-74 for a level par total and a 5 shot win and collect his first major title. Tommy showed great composure and mental strength increasing and then defending his lunchtime lead including a calculated miraculous bogey save on hole 14 in his 2nd round when a big number was possible.
Other prize winners were Scott Murray and Zac Jenkins who were 2nd and 3rd respectively in the U15 event.

Rory McIlroy wins WGC Bridgestone Invitational It was great to watch Rory McIlroy return to the World #1 golfer last week with a very impressive victory, Sergio Garcia must be sick of the sight of Rory on the leaderboard! If you didn't get to watch the tournament Rory was three shots behind with the last round to play & after just five holes he was one in front & never really looked back! With the final Major of the season this week he's going too hard to beat.
Last week also saw one of the most incredible drives I've ever seen
Using the new PING G30 driver, Bubba Watson recorded a drive of 424 yards on the 16th hole at Firestone, not surprisingly, it's the longest drive on the PGA Tour this season. The 16th is a mere 667 yard Par 5 & after his drive he had just a 5 iron into the green…Although, he did miss hit his approach into the water and made a bogey! Drive for show & Putt for dough Bubba!

Still no sign of our new arrival at home, Nicky's due date is this Saturday & so 'it' could happen at any-time, although for some reason I'm convinced he'll be born on Tuesday 12th, no idea why!
Sunday 3rd August
Congratulations to Tyrrells Wood member Richard Gibson & his guest Julian Knight who won the Men's Invitation on Sunday with an outstanding score of 48 points, pushing long time leaders Kevin Johnson & Roger Wing into second place after a very impressive 46 points.

Tuesday 5th August
Very well played Deryn Hemment who won the Ladies EWGA Medal with an excellent score of Nett 70 (reducing her handicap by a further 2 shots!!) The ever consistent Penny Brown finished in second place with a Nett 71.
