Cameron Cup update The Captain and I faced another Cameron Cup challenge last week as Steve Marion and Mark Crompton were our opponents. I had to settle for just a birdie on the 1st hole (my run of eagles is officially over!) however that birdie really set the tone for the match. Following another 3 birdies in the first five holes Alan and I were 3 up, but after some superb play (and more birdies) from Mark and Steve were back to all square after 9 holes. There was no let up on the back nine, in fact the 11th and 13th holes were the only holes where one of us didn’t make a birdie. The highlights were Steve making a 4 nett 3 on 12, followed by the Captain with a 3 nett 2 on the 14th. Steve made an excellent 2 nett 1 on the 16th hole to get the match back to all square followed by Mark on the 17th who holed a fantastic curling putt for a 3 nett 2 to put them 1 up standing on the 18th tee. We needed to win the last hole to keep our unbeaten run. Thankfully, I hit a nice tee shot and approach to 6 feet and holed the putt, for yet another birdie and to halve the match. It was one of the best scoring matches I can remember, Alan, Steve and Mark all made nett eagles during the round. It was great to be a part of it and a halve was probably the right result. Thank you Steve and Mark for your company - it’s a match I’ll remember for a long time!
