Cameron Cup update I hope it comes across in my newsletters how much I enjoy playing in the Captain and Pro matches. They are great fun, keep my golf fairly competitive and we raise some money for the Captain’s Charity. Last Sunday we were challenged by Adam Wieckowski and Grant Buxton; a pair who I have some history with after I made a stupid bet with them last year. I then proceeded not to tell the Captain, three putt from 6 feet to lose the 17th hole and watch Grant hit an awesome approach to the 18th to win the match. I’ll be honest, that one hurt. At least the Captain’s Charity benefitted from my bet. Although I think it took the Captain at the time, Steve Hunt, quite a while to forgive me. You have, haven’t you Steve? So onto this year’s match with no silly betting taking place beforehand we got underway. The match started pretty much the same way the last few have, with birdies. The Captain and I couldn’t quite keep up though and we found ourselves one down at the turn. Adam and Grant played the next few holes very well and were 2 up standing on the 15th tee.
Thankfully I made a birdie on the 15th, quickly followed by the Captain on 16 to get back to all square with two holes remaining. Grant played the 17th hole very well making a 4 nett 3 to win the hole and for the second match in a row we found ourselves 1 down standing on the 18th tee. I didn’t quite make my birdie this time, but the par was good enough to win the hole and the match finished all square, phew! We were never up in the game and had to work hard just to stay in it. Thank you to Grant and Adam for your company on the course and the generous donation to the Captain’s Charity. The unbeaten run continues!
