Stevenson Cup update from Chris
Last Wednesday saw the Vice-Captain Rob Cullen and I take on Grant Buxton and Damian Connolly in what was going to be a very tough match. We got off to a good start and found ourselves 3 Up at the turn, with the highlight of the nine being Rob’s superb birdie 2 on the 4th. We knew that the match was far from over and that there was still a lot of work to be done, and as expected, Grant and Damian quickly found their way back into the game mid way through the back nine. After birdieing the 10th, consecutive 4 nett 3s from Damian on the 13th and 14th the match was back to all square. We would halve the 15th and 16th before yet another excellent 4 nett 3 from Damian on the 17th moved them 1 Up with 1 hole to play. I knew that either Rob or I would have to at least birdie the 18th to salvage a half and thankfully I managed to hit my approach from a tricky angle to within 15 feet before sinking the putt to ultimately halve the match. On the balance of play I would say a halve was probably the right result (although grant and Damian probably won’t think so). I would like to thank them both for the game and also for their kind donations to the Captain’s Charity. Thank you gents! |
