Tyrrells make it through to the Warren League Final – match report from Steve Thorn Having won our division, we had home advantage against Banstead, who finished runners up in the Red division. In match one Steve Thorn (the Captains pick) & Gilbert (I’ll talk them into surrender) Gehrmann, have a birdie blitz, seven in total. Modesty prevents me from saying who had a total of 5 birdies in the match, but a great captain’s pick! Eventually closing the match out on the 15th, with yet another birdie 4&3. Match two saw Grant Buxton and Nick (Harry) Potter have a comprehensive 6&5 victory. I would expect nothing more from this formidable pairing. Match three had the unbeaten pair of Paul King and Stuart Hood come from 2 down at the turn, making a great come back to win 3&2. Match four had our club vice- Captain, Rob Cullen paired with Pat (5 iron) McEnaney earn a hard-fought half. Bringing up the rear in match 5, Adam (don’t get my hair wet) Wieckowski and Dave Chambers, earn a fine 4&2 win. The match was played in great spirit by both teams, exactly what you would expect from the Warren League, with much banter throughout on and off the course. Many thanks to all the catering staff for looking after us with the coffee before golf and the food after. This was endorsed by Banstead’s Warren League’s captain, who also complimented us on the condition of the course.
