Cameron Cup update Sunday saw the Captain and I face our second challenge of the season against Stuart LaFrenais and Andrew Foley. We managed to get off to a decent start and after a chip in birdie from me on the 5th we were quickly two up. We didn’t stay up for long as we lost the next three holes to make the turn one down. A couple of birdies on 10 and 11 put us back in front only for Andrew to make excellent use of his shot on the 12th to square the match. I wasn’t much use to my partner on the 13th having taken three shots and wasn’t looking like getting on the green anytime soon, thankfully, Rob played an excellent second shot under pressure onto the edge of the green, followed by Stuart who hit it a little closer, and the hole was halved in nett birdies. Stuart then hit the drive of the day on 14 to just a few feet away from the hole, but he was unlucky not to hole the putt but his 3 nett 2 was good enough to win the hole putting them one up again. I thought on 15 we stood a chance of getting back on level terms when Stuart performed another touch of brilliance getting up and down to halve the hole. After another halve on 16, Rob holed a brilliant pressure packed 3 foot putt to win the 17th hole and I managed to hole a 2 foot putt on the last for the match to finish all square. It was a very close match that at times could’ve gone either way. Thank you to Stuart and Andrew for your company and generous donation to the Captain’s charity. And so, two matches in and the Captain and I are still unbeaten. Could this be our year? Our new clubs are clearly working.
