Cameron Cup update The Captain and I faced two challenges this week, could we keep our unbeaten run in tact? The first match was one of the toughest matches I’ve been involved in, we were challenged by Mark Crompton and Simon Winslade, a pair I’ve had some every close matches with in the past. I was really pleased with my start birdieing the first two holes, but only winning one of them pretty much set the theme for the day. We all played our part on the front nine, the highlight was from Simon who holed a 30 foot birdie putt on the 7th quickly followed by the most outrageous par on the 9th I’ve ever seen. We almost didn’t find his tee shot as it was so far to the right. The Captain somehow found it and even helped Simon move a fallen tree so he could play his shot. A clatter from the trees and somehow his ball finished on the green a similar distance to the putt he holed on the 7th, clearly not embarrassed by this he calmly holed the putt to halve the hole and the front nine. The back nine followed a similar theme, I made a couple of birdies on the 11th and 12th but again only winning one hole to get us back in front. Then, for the fourth match in a row I went missing on the 13th hole, but thankfully the Captain stepped up (again!) and looked to have the hole won only for Mark, who after a pretty dodgy chip shot holed a 40 foot putt across the green for a halve. I missed a short birdie putt on the next hole and suddenly we were back to all square again. What was going on?! The Captain used his shot to great effect on 16 with a nett 2 to edge us edge ahead which thankfully we held on to win the game 1 up - phew! The game was extremely close and played in great spirit. Thank you Mark and Simon for the company and another very generous towards the Captain’s charity and I’ll certainly never forget that par on the 9th from Simon.
