Last week saw two Captain and Pro challenges, starting with the formidable pair of Mike Smith and Richard Skeet. After a closely fought front nine, including Richard making three nett twos in seven holes (only one of those was on a par three!), the Captain & I managed to sneak clear to a 4&3 victory.
On Sunday we were challenged by Ian Davidson and Vice-Captain, Nigel Jupp. Now, this was quite a different affair as after nine holes the Captain & I were four down - and didn't really deserve to be any better! But it's amazing what a cup of coffee and some food can do for you at the halfway hut. We managed to get our act together and the match finished all square - phew!!!
It gives me great pleasure to inform you that
Dan Scoble has joined the PGA. As some of you will know, Dan has worked in the Pro Shop as and when he can, he's a past Junior Captain and a Jason Dufner look-a-like!
Dan says:
"I am currently in my third year at Birmingham University studying Applied Golf Management Studies and at the start of my third year I became a PGA Assistant Professional.
I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Tyrrells for their support over the years, those who saw me swing a club when I first joined will understand why! Rob especially has made everything possible, from the work and lessons he gives me to signing my PGA forms! I know he will hate me saying it but I owe him a lot.
Although I'm based up in Birmingham for most of the year, I'm looking to play some Pro-Am events while I'm back over the winter period, if any of you would like to join me please do let me know. I can't promise eight under par but I can try!"

Winter Rules are now in play!
Preferred Lies
The following rule of golf applies. For further details see appendix 1, part A, Rule 4.b.
A ball lying on a closely mown area through the green may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball, he must place it on a spot within six inches of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green.
Embedded Ball in the Rough
If a ball is embedded in the rough relief may be taken. The ball must be marked, cleaned and dropped within one club length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief.
Tyre Marks
Tyre marks on the course are deemed to be 'ground under repair' and relief may be taken under Rule 25-1.
Tending the Flag
For non-competition and social play (for the purpose of protecting the area around the hole and to ensure an enjoyable pace of play) the 'tending' of the flag whilst putting out is not obligatory.
Tees of the day
Unless you are playing in an official club qualifying competition, all play should be from the yellow tees (men).
If you are uncertain on any rule, remember you can come and see us in the shop and we will help to clarify any uncertainty.
Monday, 27 October 2014 - Roll-Up times change to 11.30am
Please note on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday the roll-up times change to 11.30am.
Saturday, 1 November 2014 - Winter Wheel Policy introduced
As of 1 Novr 2014, a trolley fitted with winter wheels will not be banned for frost. We are hopeful that this will help more people access the course using their trolley throughout the winter months. Notification on any given day will now be one of five outcomes:
Course Open: No Restrictions
Course Open: No Buggies
Course Open: Trolleys with Winter Wheels Only
Course Open: Carry Only
Course Closed
Whilst members are not required to purchase winter wheels, these are encouraged and will allow more golfers to play throughout the winter as the unique design reduces the impact on the course through the reduction of surface area contact.
In simple terms, if you have club approved winter wheels attached to your trolley you will not be restricted use your trolley throughout the winter. For a full list of approved winter wheels please contact the professional shop where you will also be able to purchase wheels at a special members' price.
When there is a buggy ban there is one exception. If a member is registered disabled and holds a blue badge certificate they may use a buggy provided they have sought on each and every occasion the permission of the professional shop that it is safe to do so.
Many congratulations to Tim Collett who won the EBs Bournemouth Bell last Wednesday with a fantastic score of 43 points to win by six points, impressive stuff Tim!! For the full results please click here.
