Cameron Cup continued… There was no time to rest as our next challenge was just around the corner and it would be another tough match against Lee Murray and Neil Manwaring.
After I struggled with my game in our last match I got off to a terrible start, hitting 1½ shanks in the first two holes. Thankfully, I got them out of my system and made 3 birdies on the front nine, although we still managed to lose the 7th hole as Lee hit a driver and a 9 iron, yes, a 9 iron, onto the green and holed the putt for an eagle. Not bad for a 10 handicap huh. The Captain and I managed to just get our noses in front after 9 holes, making the turn 1 up. We exchanged early birdies on the back nine and were still 1 up on the 14th tee. Lee made a solid 4 nett 3 for a win on 14 and then Neil hit an excellent drive to the back of the 15th green and followed it up with two good putts for birdie and suddenly we were behind in the match. Two more nett birdies on the 16th and 17th holes and that was that. A 3&1 loss and we were shaking hands. Neil and Lee has played the last 7 holes in nett 6 under, pretty impressive golf. Thanks for your company on and off the course and again for a generous donation to the Captain's charity. |
