Cameron Cup
Last Sunday saw the Captain and I face our 13th challenge of the season against Grant Buxton and Adam Wieckowski. Grant made an excellent start after a perfect drive, almost chipping in for an eagle at the first - these two meant business. We didn’t panic though and after some good golf and a couple of great putts from the Captain and I, we were two up after 7 holes. Grant won the 8th hole with a 4 nett 3 and then Adam matched my birdie on the 9th, but unfortunately for us he had a shot on the hole as well, so won the hole with a 2 nett 1. Suddenly we were all square after the front nine. After a quick stop at the hut, we won the 10th to go ahead again and the Captain once again holed an amazing curling putt on the 11th green for a halve. The match turned on the 12th hole as, after a decent drive, I managed to completely top my next shot (I was trying to be clever, clearly not a good thing to do) and we ended up losing the hole to a par. We also lost the 13th hole and the 14th to another birdie from Adam and found ourselves 2 down on the 15th tee. I managed to win the 15th with a birdie but Grant quickly followed that up with a 3 nett 2 on 16 to take the match to dormie two. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to win the 17th as the Captain’s putt just lipped out, meaning we lost 2&1. It was another very close match in which Adam and Grant played very well together. Thank you both for your very generous donation to the Captain’s charity.
