Supporting a great cause
It’s been another busy week at Tyrrells, the highlight being the Club Captains Charity Day thankfully played in the sunshine on Saturday. It was extremely well supported with 32 teams taking part in the shotgun start at 9:00am. Please see the competition results section for the full results. With your help, the day raised over £5000, a tremendous achievement and something that will make a huge difference to The Mid Surrey Dementia Care Trust based in Leatherhead.

On the day I was lucky enough to play with the Captain, General Manager and my assistant Chris. I foolishly decided that Chris and I should take the two Robs on. Suffice to say, that match didn’t go our way, in fact, our General Manager made more birdies than the Head Professional. Meanwhile, Jo spent most of the day on the 16th hole running a beat the Pro Challenge, not only did she beat Chris and me she helped raise over £550 for the Captains Charity.
Another highlight for me this week was listening to the Titleist Fitting Technician Chris as he was custom fitting on Monday. In an era of silly manufactures claims and crazy marketing ideas, it was very refreshing to hear him talk about what you can, and can’t! change in your game with a golf club. He really knew his stuff. If you missed out this time don’t despair, he’ll be back in November. |

I was very sad to have to cancel this year’s Finals Day due to the bad weather. Thanks to Craig and his team as every effort was made to keep the golf course open but unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t play ball. All finalists will now arrange their own finals individually.
It seems appropriate to announce that following PING’s success on the Tours last week after they won on the European, American and Champions Tours, I’m delighted to announce that PING will be at Tyrrells Wood on Monday, 28 October. More details to follow next week but in the meantime please click here to view their extremely popular G410 range and here to see our very own assistant Professional Jo’s view on the PING range.

The popularity of Distance Measuring Devices (DMDs) has been growing for several years as golfers seek as much help as possible whilst out on the course. Our recent survey indicated that over 70% of you choose to use one, so we thought we'd highlight one of our favourites in this week's newsletter. |
| Garmin Approach S40 watch
|
|
GPS devices are not just about reading front, middle and back yardages. Well, in some cases they are, but not when it comes to Garmin’s Approach S40 watch. As we know, the course can be played several different ways and the Approach S40 displays distances to hazards and doglegs at a glance, which will prove vital when trying to take your course management to the next level.
|
In fact, at this time of the year when a wet course is a regular occurrence, knowing your yardages has never been more important. This is where the S40 comes into its own as it allows you to alter the pin's position on your watch so you can get highly accurate distances. Pretty clever stuff! We have a brilliant review video that you can view by clicking the link below. |
