The last Cameron Cup of the year
I’ll be honest, I was more than a little sad on Sunday morning as it was my last Captain and Pro Challenge of the year. It’s been so enjoyable playing with Rob Cullen throughout the year, he’s been an excellent Captain and having lost our previous two matches I was determined to finish with a win.
Now, I’m sure you’ve heard the saying you should save the best until last, well, they were unavailable and so we were challenged by Mike Scott and Mark Barron, sorry couldn’t resist it! Mike and Mark started really well, it’s hard for me to match Mark’s 3 nett 2 on the 2nd hole and after an excellent up and down from Mike (yes, you read that right) for a 4 nett 3 and a win on the 6th hole, we gifted them the 7th hole and all of a sudden we were three down. I managed to win the 8th with a birdie and we were looking good on the 9th when Mike produced another excellent up and down (I know, another one!) to win the hole and put us back to three down at the turn. This wasn’t the final match I had in mind.
After a stop at the hut, we got the match back on track, both Rob and I birdied the 10th and continued our good play on the back nine and by the 18th tee the match was all square and for the 10th time this year the match would come down to the last hole. Thankfully this time I managed to win the hole to win the match 1 up. Thank you very much, Mark and Mike, for your company, I always enjoy playing golf with you guys and thank you for your generous donation to the Captains charity.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has challenged us this year, we started these matches back in March and throughout the year have played 25 games raising just over £2000 for Rob's charity - The Mid Surrey Dementia Trust based in Leatherhead.
