Unlock your potential
As the golf season starts to approach, I hope, I thought it would be beneficial to turn our attention to something that most golfers would love…More distance. Reading recent reports from the R&A and USGA, the Tour Pros are now hitting the ball too far, this may be true but it definitely isn’t something we see at Club level. What we do see is many golfers not hitting their potential distance. According to the recent study, the average distance for a man is 216 yards. The data was collected across 1141 shots of players with varying handicaps. Players with handicaps less than 6 averaged 239 yards compared to 177 yards for over 21 handicaps. Female golfers had an average of 148 yards with low handicapped golfers, 6 or lower average 197 yards off the tee, while players with handicaps over 29 averaged 120 yards. What I found really interesting is that there is no significant improvement to distance for the club golfer since 2005. |
There are many factors that can influence this but here’s the thing – YOU are the most important one. Not TaylorMade 'SIM', Callaway 'Jailbreak' or PING 'Turbulator' technology.
When it comes to driver distances, we’re told high launch and low spin are the vital ingredients to optimal driver performance. Except that’s not entirely true. For every golfer there are optimal swing characteristics to help reach your distance potential, using my GCQuad Launch Monitor in our Swing Studio is the best way these can be measured.

Last week we revealed a remarkable statistic regarding the number of golfers playing grips that are over a year old, but what impact does that actually have on your game? Well, we decided to do some digging... |
Grips are made from rubber and are prone to wear and tear, just like the tyres on your car. When they become worn, your grips will lose tackiness and your hands will start to slip during the swing, resulting in poorer shots. The thing is, if you notice this, you’ll likely overcompensate by holding on to your clubs too tight, creating more tension and stiffness during the swing. We know it sounds all doom and gloom but fortunately doing something about it is as simple as popping down to Tyrrells Wood Golf Club to see us and taking a look at the grip options we have available.
