This must be a record

Now, this must be some kind of record as following the success of Stuart LaFrenais’ hole in one last week, quite amazingly we have had another FOUR...Yes that’s correct, four members have made a hole in one since.

Many congratulations go to Diana Morris who made a one on the 16th hole, Mario Zakakiotis also on the 16th, Chris Pinn pictured on the 9th and also John Edgcumbe on the 9th.

In fact, John sent me this email afterwards:

"As I mentioned on the phone, my front nine yesterday was eventful starting with a chip in eagle on the first and having a hole in one on the 9th! This was especially attributed to you as I used the Ping 22’ hybrid you sold me last year. Sadly, I did not see it enter the hole but it was none the less wonderful. I was so excited I followed it with four blobs."

Important competition news

Men's Club Championship

The Men's Club Championship will take place on Saturday, 12 and Sunday, 13 September. To be eligible to play, you must have a competition status handicap and have played in three qualifying competitions in the previous 12 months. Entry will open at 7:00pm on Tuesday, 1 September and close on Tuesday, 8 September. Tee times are set up in 1 hour time zones, the first round draw will be made on Wednesday, 9 September. The Greenhill Cup

Calling all five day members – The Greenhill Cup will now be played on Monday, 21 September. Please enter in the usual way 5 days in advance via the Tyrrells website.

Jo's last day

It’s been lovely to hear many of the good will messages to Jo this past week. Her last day with us will be Sunday, 6 September and I’d hoped to arrange a thank you drink on the terrace of all to attend but unfortunately due to government guidelines I'm afraid it just isn't possible. Please pop into the shop before the 6th to wish Jo all the very best.

It's about to get interesting

The Northern Trust begins this week, marking the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs on the PGA Tour. The event, held at TPC Boston, will be followed by the BMW Championship before culminating in Atlanta at The Tour Championship. It’s a hell of a payday for the winner ($15 million), as well as a lot of prestige; joining a list of golf’s modern greats.

Justin Thomas has already wrapped-up the $2 million Wyndham Rewards prize for the best regular-season player, with PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa finishing second. Thomas will be hoping to join Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods as the only players to win the FedEx Cup multiple times (both have won it twice), but it won’t be easy.

It's great to see

Golf is going through a great period at the moment with lots of people taking the chance to play. One thing you'll notice is the number of golfers using an electric trolley to carry their clubs around the course, so we thought we'd highlight a couple of our favourites in this week's email.
