Adrian Stuart retains the Club Championship

Many congratulations to Adrian Stuart who last weekend retained the Scratch Salver, our Club Championship, after a play-off victory on the 18th hole against Paul Earl.

Adrian obviously likes the big occasions and clearly the back nine as during the final round last year he shot 2 under par on it to win by three, he matched that score again this year to get into a play-off with 19-time champion Paul Earl, who unfortunately missed from around six foot to win in regulation play. Adrian’s par on the 1st playoff hole was good enough for the win. Some consolation for Paul was winning the nett prize, the Clayton Cup. Please click here for the full results.

A massive thank you to all who took part and staff that helped run such a big competition. To run a Club Championship in September comes with quite a few different challenges. Congratulations to Craig and his team for preparing the course in such excellent condition.

New hire trolleys

We are now the proud owners of a couple of Motocaddy’s new M5 GPS trolleys to use as our hire trolleys. Tyrrell's member, John McQuade took one out for a spin last week

'I tried out the new model this week and can say that I was very impressed.

Whilst the trolley seems identical to the older versions it performed better in every way. Very smooth drive and handling but what makes it stand out is the new digital colour GPS display screen. It is stylish, easy to read with large font and provides front, pin position and back of green measurements as per every good range finder and seemed to be very accurate.

I would score it very highly and may even purchase one myself!'

Golf on Tour

It's Major week

This weekend's U.S. Open will feature plenty of familiar faces with the likes of Dustin Johnson, Tiger Woods and new-father Rory McIlroy all teeing it up in New York.

Given the dominance of these players in recent years, it might be foolish to look past them when considering who might be crowned champion, but that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

Webb Simpson is certainly worth a look in our eyes. A couple of wins and regular top-10 finishes in the just-finished season means confidence will be sky-high. Speaking of confidence, Collin Morikawa won the PGA Championship in just his second Major start and looks like he’s just warming up.

Will fatherhood have Rory firing or tiring? Can DJ get over the line at another Major? Or is it time for somebody else to take centre-stage at Winged Foot GC? We can't wait to find out!
