Hello Golfers,

Welcome to this week's newsletter from Tyrrells Wood Golf Club, we hope you're well.

I wish you all well during the lockdown, although I'll miss golf, I'm very much looking forward to spending some quality time with my family. It'll be nice to be able to take the boys to school and spend time with Ava. I can't believe she'll be a year old next month.  

If you are going to do something to help your golf then make sure you keep moving and swinging a golf club during lockdown. I wouldn’t advise getting too technical but a few stretches a day and a couple of golf swings to keep things ticking over will be well worthwhile for when we do get back to golf.

I’m hoping that during the lockdown, England Golf will be able to sort out the issue with the WHS, as long as they don’t furlough all their staff again. Unfortunately every golf club I’ve spoken to are having similar issues with the new system, let’s hope that by the time we get back to playing golf, these problems have been resolved. In the meantime, please email me if you have any missing competitions or other issues with your new handicap index.

A birdie to finish...

Following on from the government’s announcement, we have now had to close our doors for golf until Wednesday, 2nd December.

The last few days have been extremely busy on the golf course with everyone looking to get their last fix before the lockdown 2.0.

I even managed to play the back nine on Wednesday morning, it took my total number of rounds for the year to a rather pathetic 10 but it was great to be out on the course which was made even better with a birdie to finish on the 18th.

Augusta looms

Masters week is an exciting time for any avid golfer. It's when we get to watch our favourite golfers battle it out on one of the most iconic courses in the world. Flowers in full bloom, an array of beautiful colours, and a course in pristine condition year-after-year. Augusta National is a special place, so we thought we'd run through some of the standout Masters memories ahead of next week's showdown.


Sunday Shifts

In 1996, Greg Norman turned a six-stroke Sunday lead into a five-stroke loss to Nick Faldo. In 1978, Gary Player started the final round eight strokes behind before shooting the lowest-ever final round (64) at Augusta to claim the Green Jacket!


Fighting Spirit

Tiger’s incredible 2019 comeback win springs to mind, but Ben Hogan recovered from a terrible car crash in 1949 to win The Masters by five strokes in 1953. Ben Crenshaw’s 1995 victory came in the same week as the funeral of long-time instructor Harvey Penick. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
