Following on from my newsletter last week, I think its fair to say the reaction on the tour has been pretty poor in relation to The R&A and USGA proposals to combat the increasing distance in golf. On one hand, you have Bryson who has given his support to the proposed changes and believes it is “flattering” that they might restrict the length of a driver based on his recent performance. However, it’s safe to say Rory McIlroy had a slightly different opinion, believing the money and attention should be focused away from the 0.01% at the top of the game:
"We have to make the game as easy and approachable as possible for the majority of golfers." "It's (about) the grassroots. It's getting more people engaged in golf.”
All being said, we don’t think anyone would disagree with Rory on this front. What are your thoughts? Are you in favour of the proposed changes?
On top of these proposed changes the USPGA have decided it will allow Professionals to use distance measuring devices in their tournaments. Just what golf needs, another reason to slow play down even further. |
