I think we'll start with a question for you this week. What's worse than a five year old with chicken spots? You've guessed it, a six month old with some new teeth coming through and chicken spots!!! At least we're getting it all out the way in one go, or so I thought! I was reading up on chicken pox and found out that if you get them before you're one there's a very good chance you'll get them again…. Oh great!!
I saw
Rory McIlroy letting his frustration get the better of him after hitting his approach shot on a par 5 into the water (I feel your pain Rors!). If you didn't see it, Rory 'fat hooked' his 3-iron straight into the drink, his ball was quickly followed by the offending 3-iron as Rory threw it into the lake. Listening to his interview after the round, he apologised and said all the right things. The thing that made me laugh was his playing partner Henrik Stenson's comment. Henrik (who has form for the same offence) apparently said to Rory 'Well, with the way you've been playing today, that's the only way you'll make the highlights reel!'
With only a few weeks to go for Chris in his Captain's year, the Cameron Cup challenges are coming in thick and fast. The first of which was from the current Cameron Cup holders Simon Park and David Tennant (this pair properly duffed me up in this competition last year!). Thankfully, the Captain was on his best form and we won the match 4&2. A special mention must also go to Dave who played a 4 hole stretch on the back nine in a nett 6 under par!!
The next challenge wasn't any easier! We were up against Paul 'sixteen time Club Champion' Earl and Neil 'who hits it as far as a Tour Pro' Manwaring, at least I didn't have to give many shots away! We were all square after the front nine before Paul and Neil edged one clear on the 14th which was the same score as we stood on the 18th tee. Unfortunately (for us) there was no birdie from me on the last and we halved the hole and lost the match 1 down.
Captain's Drive-In
Sun 22 Mar will see new Captain Nigel Jupp officially drive-in! Nigel's chosen charity is Wooden Spoon, the children's charity of rugby.
They fund life-changing projects across the UK and Ireland to support disadvantaged and disabled children. With over 400 committed volunteers raising money in local communities across the country, they are extremely proud to say that the funds their volunteers raise support projects in their local area. So far they have distributed over £22 million to over 650 projects across the UK & with over 1 million disadvantaged and disabled under 25's having benefitted from Wooden Spoon.
To help Nigel get his fund raising underway you could win a bottle of champagne if you can predict where Nigel's drive will finish. It's just £2 to enter with all proceeds going to the Wooden Spoon. Just pop into the pro shop to enter.
Sat 7 Mar - Well played Daren Stinton who won the first Club Medal of the year with a nett 72. Daren won on countback from Tom Waugh and Junior Club Champion Danny Sarson. For the full results please click here.
Sun 8 Mar - Many congratulations to Andy Lucey for winning the Club Medal on Sunday with an excellent nett 70 in some tough conditions. Again the competition was won on countback from Mark Stevenson and Alan Self. For the full results please click here.
A big thank you to all who attended our Rules Evening last week. The evening was hosted by Iain Pearson, a PGA Tournament Controller, and was a fun and extremely informative event. The feedback has been great and we will definitely be organising a similar evening again.
