Hello golfers,
Well, what a week and what a finish!! Many congratulations go to Zach Johnson, the Champion Golfer for the Year - I do love that title. Although the truth be told, I wanted Louis to win the play-off. The Home of Golf certainly delivered a great Championship, it's a shame I can't say the same for the BBC! I couldn't believe that the coverage for the final round started at 1:45pm, no wonder they won't have exclusive coverage next year! Many congratulations to Tony Fenton who picked Zach Johnson from our Pro Shop Open Sweepstake, please click here to see the top five winners.
Improve your scores - NOW!
If you were to watch a professional golfer during a practice session, it would look very different to most amateurs. They spend 75% of their time practicing shots 120 yards or less! Why? Because in an average round 65% of their shots are taken within that yardage range and they understand that tournaments are won and lost with the short game.
My advice would be to stop pounding drivers on the range and focus on your short game, it will yield results. And so I have three top tips for you:
- Get Custom Fitted - We can make sure: You have the correct club head design - There is a very good reason why we DON'T recommend you buy the sand wedge to match most major manufactures full sets; Have the correct loft & bounce options - This makes it easier to choose the correct wedge for the most consistent shot; Make sure you have the correct weight of shaft to suit your style of swing - why should ladies use the same length and weight as the men?
- Keep your stats - Keeping a record of how many shots you actually take on the golf course from within 100 yards will really make you think differently about the quickest way to improve your scores
- On the course - Keep it simple, just aim at getting the ball onto the middle of the green. Don't worry about the position of the pin. The probability of two-putting from there is much, much higher than getting up and down from off the green. More so, the likelihood of one-putting is even higher than chipping in! This strategy is a shot to the ego, but it will turn three or four bogeys into pars, or double bogeys into bogeys.
