I watched some of the Ladies British Open last weekend and was extremely impressed with the performance of winner, Inbee Park. She carded a quite stunning final round of 65 (-7). I was also amazed to see her stats for the week: her driving distance averaged at just 234 yards but with a putting average of 27.75 this gave her a final total of 12-under-par and another Major - I really need to spend some more time on the putting green!!!
Mashie Niblick anyone?
Pro's Day this year took on a very different look (as you can see from the pictures below) with everybody taking part using hickory golf clubs. After a hearty breakfast we were all briefed by Grant Anderson from Vintage Golf and then headed out onto the golf course for a shotgun start at 9am. Like many, I'd never used hickory clubs before and wasn't quite sure what to expect - I shouldn't have worried, I haven't had that much fun on a golf course for a long time!
It was amazing to play golf using clubs as old as Tyrrells Wood and a very different type of challenge. For your viewing, please click on the image here to view a video of my shot from the 18th tee. If you haven't played this style of golf before, I'd definitely recommend it……….. Pro's Day 2016 maybe??
As for the scoring, the day was won by Paul and Phil Olney who had the best front nine score. David Weller and Chris Baron won the back nine. For the full results please click here.
This week saw the launch of TWO new irons ranges from PING - the GMax and i series irons. If you're looking for the most forgiving iron on the market then the GMax is a must try - in recent tests they have proven to be PING's longest iron ever!! The i series uses 431 stainless steel for the very first time to create a softer feel, delivering workability and trajectory control with the right amount of forgiveness.
Both irons are now available in store now. Please click here to book your FREE custom fitting session.
Below you will find the upcoming fixtures for the next 10 days at Tyrrells Wood:
Wed 29 Jul - Well played David Preedy who won the Club Stableford with 39 points. Philip Garland finished in second place. For the full results please click here.
Tue 4 Aug - Many congratulations to Sandra Oldland, Flick Saunders, Cate Sharpe and Anne Stevenson who won the Ladies Texas Scramble with an excellent score of 65.7. For the full results please click here.
