Last week saw Club Captain Nigel Jupp and myself represent Tyrrells Wood in the PGA Pro Captain Championship played at Blackmoor Golf Club. It's a pairs betterball format with the winning Captain and Pro pair qualifying for the Grand Final - an all expenses trip to Tukey in November.
It had been a while since I'd played Blackmoor (nearly 20 years!) and it was as good as I remember, I thoroughly enjoyed the golf course and would definitely recommend a visit if you get the opportunity. The weather was fantastic, almost as good as our golf! With the Captain playing extremely well, the highlight being a two (nett one) on the difficult par three 16th hole! We finished our round on six-under-par and at the time were tied for the lead,. Unfortunately, we lost out on countback as a couple of hours later, with both of us trying not to think about the double bogey we made on the 10th hole, the final pair of the tournament posted seven-under-par pushing us back into third place.
It would've been great to win the competition, I'm still trying to forget the two birdie putts I missed on the 17th & 18th holes - both were within six feet. AAARRRGGGHHH!!
I'm happy to report that the Course Maintenance week went according to plan with almost 40 tonnes of sand put onto the greens.
It's hard to believe just over a week ago the putting green looked like this! Paul and his team have once again done a fantastic job!
