So, this week posed a bit of a dilemma for me. I had a call on Monday morning from Mick Lawton, a Tyrrells member and single figure handicap golfer, who was due to play a semi-final of a summer knockout later in the week. Mick explained he had been striking the ball very well but needed some help with his putting. No problems, I tell Mick and we arrange to meet up the following day.
All straight forward so far you say, until I realised that Mick's opponent was Chris Olney (yes, the same Chris Olney who has worked in the Pro Shop for me for the last four years!)…. Now what?!
Being the true Professional that I am (??), I did the only thing I could…… I gave Mick the best putting lesson ever! He won his scratch match against Chris on the 19th hole and I had some explaining to do the following morning. Luckily I think Chris has forgiven me but maybe you could all be extra nice to him if you see him this week - thank you!

The President's Cup was retained by the TWGC's men, after the match was reduced to nine holes due to heavy rain. The final result was 6-4 to the men, however we all know they have no stamina and the ladies had clearly lead them into a false sense of security, planning a back nine charge only for mother nature to intervene…. Hmmmmm. Once all competitors had managed to dry off the match was followed by a sumptuous lunch and a few liquid refreshments.
