Hello golfers,
Firstly, I'd like to thank you for all the kind (???) messages about my son Freddie's choice of football team.
By popular demand please see the picture when he tried on the kit for the first time. The moment was made even worse as Nicky insisted I paid for it as well!
It was an expensive week in the world of golf with Jordan Spieth winning the Tour Championship, the FedExCup and a cool $22 million! Not bad for a week's work, he's had an amazing year which works out that he actually earned $3600 per shot in 2015….. if only!
Finals Day 2015
Many congratulations to all who competed in Finals Day on Sunday. It was a beautiful day, the golf course was perfectly set up, the competition played in the correct manor and the Sunday lunch after golf was sumptuous (so I'm told, I didn't qualify!) As for the results…..
The Tyrrells Wood Foursomes
Chris Luke & Mario Viscione beat Mark Hanlon & Dave Bragg 1up
The Brown Cup
Chris Miller beat Steve Grimshaw 5&4
The Cameron Cup
Gary Ward & Sean Grisciti beat Rob Cullen & Ken Drew 2&1
The RJS Pairs
Paul Earl & John Evans beat Andrew Bowes & Bob Stringer 3&2
Please click on the image here to watch a time-lapse video I took of the finalists teeing off the first tee.
Outside of Finals Day the following finals have been played: The Stevenson Cup where Ian Davidson & John Bone beat Allan Chisholm & Mario Viscione 2&1. Plus the Allam Cup where Andy Shiells beat Chris Tate 5&4.
There are 14 finals in total to be played and it's such a shame we didn't have more finals playing on the day. Much has been discussed about the format for Finals Day at the Captains' Committee. One option discussed is the format used at Surbiton Golf Club. ALL finals must be played on Finals Day, members are made aware of this and should not enter if they cannot guarantee the will be available for the day. The only circumstance whereby a final is not played is that a member has qualified for more than one. I'd love to know your view on this, please email me here with your thoughts.
Jo's coaching offer
Now the season is very much coming to an end, it's time for the post-match analysis. How did your game shape up in 2015? Did you meet the targets you had set for yourself? Did you reduce your handicap? Most importantly did you enjoy your golf? (And by this I mean your golf, not the conversation on the way round or the drink after, but did you actually enjoy your own golf?) Next spring, The Masters, and the golfing season seem a long way off, but the work you do in these next six months will have a massive impact on whether you meet or even exceed your targets for 2016. This winter I am offering a coaching package that can help. The package consists of:
Initial 60 minute assessment and planning session
This is an opportunity to look at you and your game in depth. The hour includes a TPI physical screen, an analysis of your latest rounds, where did you lose shots? We will then take into account the areas of your game that need the most attention. We will then plan out the areas we need to prioritise and plan our coaching sessions accordingly. Practice and practicing effectively is also a hugely important area when it comes to improving, we will also put together a practice plan that fits you.
6 x 60 minute coaching sessions
These can be on or off course, depending on how we have structured your package and what we are working on
6 x 30 minute supervised practice sessions
These intersperse our coaching sessions and are a great way of touching base in between coaching sessions.
End of package consultation
This hour is used to analyse your progress as well as giving you the tools you need to keep your improvement going throughout the summer season.
This offer is exclusively for members who are serious about improving their golf, it won't be for everyone and will require some dedicated practice. Price £370. If you'd like to have a chat or would like more information please contact Jo on proshop@tyrrellswoodgolfclub.com or pop into the Pro Shop.
We have added some extra dates for my favourite competition, The Cameron Cup. As you may remember this competition gives me my only chance to get my name up on a Tyrrells Wood competition Board, all we have to do is go undefeated for the year! January - 8.30am Sunday 10th; 8.30am Sunday 17th; 10am Monday 18th; 8.30am Sunday 24th; 8.30am Sunday 31st

Please note the closing date for this year's Winter League is this Sunday, 4 October! The draw for groups will be emailed to all competitors on Monday 5th October, the tee sheets will open at 7am on Tuesday 6th October.
Please note that Winter Rules will be in place from Thursday, 1 October. This enables you to lift, clean and place your golf ball that rests on any closely mown area of the golf course. It also means ALL members' general play will be from the yellow tees only.
