First things first, let's not mention the rugby! It's such a shame England were knocked out and as for the football!!!!! ……. As you know, I'm going through some testing times with Freddie and his choice of football team, well Arsenal (his team) played Manchester United (my team) last Sunday. I didn't get home in time to watch all of the match and so I sat down with Freddie with 20 minutes to go and United losing 3-0, which he took great pleasure reminding me of. The funniest thing was, after the match had finished, I watched the post-match analysis to see the goals etc. Freddie didn't realise it was the highlights (he is only 5!) and so he thought Arsenal kept scoring goals, he got up to 9-0 before I told him!!
Winter Rules, winter wheels and white lines
If you've played golf at Tyrrells this week you would have noticed that Winter Rules are now in play. There are three main points to remember at this time of year:
- You can now lift, clean and place your golf ball that rests on a closely mown area of the golf course
- ALL men's general play is from the yellow tees only
- Whilst playing casual golf you don't need to attend the flag whilst putting
With regards to winter wheels, to help protect our golf course we kindly request all members only to use their winter wheels when there is a frost. Please keep your normal wheels on your trolley in the meantime.
You may also have noticed some white lines in front of many of our greens. To help Paul and his team to maintain the high playing surfaces during the winter, please make sure you adhere to these restrictions.
Lady Captain and Assistant Professional Challenge update from Jo
During the summer, Lady Captain Noreen Kelland and I were challenged to four matches from the ladies section. We didn't get off to the best of starts losing to Yvonne Warren and Prue Cuming, by our second match we had steadied things halving with Lesley Dudgeon and Margaret Dodds-Ely. We won our final two matches against Marie Munt & Helen Johnson and Charmaine Kearl & Cate Sharpe, both matches were close but we eventually won both on the 17th hole. Congratulations to Yvonne and Prue who were the only victorious pair. I look forward to playing in a few Vice-Captain Challenges with Stuart Jackson over the winter, watch this space for some dates!
Jo's coaching offer - last few remaining
Now the season is very much coming to an end, it's time for the post-match analysis. How did your game shape up in 2015? Did you meet the targets you had set for yourself? Did you reduce your handicap? Most importantly did you enjoy your golf? (And by this I mean your golf, not the conversation on the way round or the drink after, but did you actually enjoy your own golf?) Next spring, The Masters, and the golfing season seem a long way off, but the work you do in these next six months will have a massive impact on whether you meet or even exceed your targets for 2016. This winter I am offering a coaching package that can help. The package consists of:
Initial 60 minute assessment and planning session
This is an opportunity to look at you and your game in depth. The hour includes a TPI physical screen, an analysis of your latest rounds, where did you lose shots? We will then take into account the areas of your game that need the most attention. We will then plan out the areas we need to prioritise and plan our coaching sessions accordingly. Practice and practicing effectively is also a hugely important area when it comes to improving, we will also put together a practice plan that fits you.
6 x 60 minute coaching sessions
These can be on or off course, depending on how we have structured your package and what we are working on
6 x 30 minute supervised practice sessions
These intersperse our coaching sessions and are a great way of touching base in between coaching sessions.
End of package consultation
This hour is used to analyse your progress as well as giving you the tools you need to keep your improvement going throughout the summer season.
This offer is exclusively for members who are serious about improving their golf, it won't be for everyone and will require some dedicated practice. Price £370 . If you'd like to have a chat or would like more information please contact Jo on proshop@tyrrellswoodgolfclub.com or pop into the Pro Shop.
